Does having a virtual address make me liable for state taxes?

Updated over 2 months ago

Common questions we get asked about sales tax:

Do I have to pay sales tax if I get packages sent to you?

As a customer of US Global Mail, the physical address we provide you is based in Houston, Texas. This means that a retailer can impose sales tax on any items shipped to this address.

Does Texas charge sales tax?

Yes, most states including Texas require that sales tax must be paid on purchases as do most other states such as California, Florida and New York. Texas sales tax is 8.25%.

The Texas Government website indicates the following:

"Whether the sale takes place online or in a store, Texas sellers must collect sales tax on taxable items sold and delivered to Texas locations. A seller is "engaged in business" in this state if they have a Texas outlet, office or location where they take orders for taxable items.
