A rejected document is usually a problem with the image, not with the document itself. The upload area reopens automatically so you can submit a corrected version.
"It says my ID is expired, but it isn't"
This is the most common report, and it is almost always because the expiry date could not be read. Retake the photo with the whole date clearly visible — good light, no glare, no shadow across the date, all four corners of the document in frame.
Other frequent reasons
The image is blurry, dark or cropped. All four corners must be visible and the text readable.
Only one side was uploaded. If your address is on the back — as it is on many licences and residency cards — upload both sides.
The name does not match the account. The name on the ID must match the recipient name on the mailbox. If your name has changed, tell us so we can correct the account first.
The document type is not accepted. USPS no longer accepts some ID types that were acceptable when you originally signed up. A non-US driver's licence is not accepted as a photo ID.
What counts as each type
For the photo ID, a US and foreign passport is accepted and is what most expat customers use.
For the address ID, this is where customers get stuck — a non-US driver's licence is not accepted as a photo ID, but documents showing your foreign residential address are generally workable. Accepted address documents include:
Lease or rental agreement
Mortgage statement or deed
Vehicle registration
Home or vehicle insurance policy
Voter registration card
Both must be current and unexpired.
After you re-upload
Documents are reviewed within about 2-3 business day. You will receive an email once approved. Until then the item stays on your Action Required page — that is expected and does not mean the upload failed.
If you genuinely have no accepted document
If you live outside the US or have no document in your own name, see I live outside the US and don't have a US address document. Contact us before your deadline rather than letting the account go on hold.
