Why is my ID being verified?
To receive mail on your behalf, US Global Mail is required by the USPS to collect a signed Form 1583 along with two forms of valid identification.
This process confirms your identity and authorizes us to legally receive, scan, and forward your mail. It also protects you by ensuring no one else can gain access to your mail by impersonating you.
How does US Global Mail verify my identity?
We follow USPS compliance standards to verify your identity securely and efficiently. Here's how it works:
✅ We review your ID verification photo and the two IDs you submit
✅ We confirm your photo matches your primary ID
✅ We ensure your primary ID is government-issued and not expired
✅ We confirm your secondary ID shows your physical street address (not a P.O. Box or private mailbox)
Usually, this verification is done via notarization, but we streamline it to make it simple for you.
How long does verification take?
ID verification typically takes 1 business day or less. If it’s taking longer, feel free to contact us at [email protected].
What happens next?
Once your identity is verified and Form 1583 is approved, we’ll notify you by email. Your virtual mailbox will be fully authorized to receive and handle your mail.
Why do I need to provide ID?
If you're setting this up for yourself: USPS requires 2 forms of ID from anyone receiving mail at a virtual address — whether you're a founder managing company mail, an expat living overseas, or just need a US address for personal use.
If you're setting this up for your company: USPS regulations require us to verify whoever opens the account — even if you're not getting personal mail. Think of it like opening a business bank account: someone has to be the authorized signatory.
Your ID is just for account verification. We can still receive mail for:
All your company names (no extra ID needed)
Any employees/family you add as recipients (they'll provide their own ID)
You personally (if you want personal mail too)
💡 Please note: Submitting Form 1583 does not update your address with USPS.
