Removing, adding or changing a recipient during the Form 1583 update

Every adult who receives mail at your mailbox needs their own Form 1583 and their own two IDs. When a Form 1583 update is under way, changing who is on the mailbox affects what is outstanding.

Removing someone rather than updating their ID

If a recipient no longer needs to receive mail at your address, removing them clears their Action Required item — you do not have to supply an ID for someone who is leaving the mailbox. Remove them from your account Settings -> Recipients & Addresses -> Recipients list. Mail arriving for a removed recipient can no longer be accepted.

Adding someone during an update

A newly added recipient needs their own two IDs and their own signature.
Just add the name from the Settings -> Recipients & Addresses -> Recipients list page and uploaded requested documents.

Deceased Family Members

If the mail is addressed to a deceased family member:

  • Add the deceased person as an approved recipient on your account.

  • Mark their status as deceased.

  • Submit the notarized USPS Form 1583 with the deceased person's name included.

  • No additional estate documents are required.

  • Once these steps are completed, support can release the quarantined mail, provided it is still within the retention window.

Minors

Children under 18 do not need their own photo ID in the same way adults do. They are listed on the primary account holder's form. If a child on your mailbox has turned 18 since your last form, they now need their own two IDs.

Businesses, LLCs and trusts

A business name on the mailbox needs the business's address (no additional documentation) in addition to the individual's. If your Action Required page shows a company address request, this is why.
