What should I do with my mail in quarantine?

What is quarantined mail and how to access it.

Updated over a week ago

If you see mail marked as Quarantine in your inbox, it means we’ve temporarily held the item due to a compliance issue. This is required by USPS regulations to ensure your mail remains private, secure, and legally protected. Quarantine specifically occurs when mail is addressed to a name that is not approved on your account.

Mail may be placed in quarantine for one of the following reasons:

  • The mail is addressed to a recipient name that has not been verified on your account

  • The item was delivered by USPS, but we don’t have a completed Form 1583 on file for you

  • Your account is not yet fully approved

While in quarantine, the item cannot be scanned, opened, or shipped. Specific restricted actions include: Open & Inspect, Interior scanning, and Shipping.

Preventing Mail Quarantine

To ensure uninterrupted mail handling, always ensure proper recipient authorization in advance by submitting the necessary documents, including two valid IDs and a notarized USPS Form 1583.

How do I remove an item from quarantine?

If your account is active and approved:

  • Click “More” next to the quarantined item

  • Select “Add Recipient” and follow the steps

  • Or, choose to Discard or Return to Sender

If your account is pending approval:

  • Make sure you’ve submitted all required documents, including Form 1583 and valid ID

  • Once the missing name or your account is approved, we will move the quarantined items to your mailbox.

💡 Tip: To avoid automatic discard, take action within 15 days. After that, quarantined items are securely shredded or returned to sender.

Missing "More" Option

If you do not see a "More" option for quarantined items, it may indicate that the recipient name is not yet verified or approved. Double-check that the name has been added to your account and that all required verification steps have been completed.
